Beijing International Cello Competition Cancelled

Earlier this summer, Beijing cancelled the violin section, but not the cello section, of its international competition. So the thirty wonderful cellists from around the world who had passed the preliminary CD round have been practicing long hours all summer. To their shock and dismay, the cello competition, scheduled to begin September 8, was yesterday “postponed”  with the following letter to contestants:

Announcement:

Postponement of Cello Competition of Beijing International Music Competition

With great regret, Beijing E-Chengwen Company Limited, the organizer of Beijing International Music Competition (BJIMC) hereby announces that the Cello Competition 2015 scheduled on September 8, 2015 is postponed due to:

1. Government Policy Change—New Operational License Required
BJIMC is required to apply for license of operation each time of competition to comply with government policy. Accordingly, BJIMC committee had obtained one for 2015 Cello Competition late 2014 however, we are asked to make another application middle of the month of August. The time constraint makes it impossible for a smooth operation of Cello Competition scheduled on September 8, 2015.

2. Financial Difficulties
70% of art and cultural competitions in China have been suspended this year in order to regulate the market and accordingly, government financial support to BJIMC shrank significantly. The recent turmoil of economic market in China results in sudden withdrawal of commercial financial support to BJIMC.

Mr. ZHANG Yong, the president of Beijing E-Chengwen Company Limited, has devoted himself in developing classical music in China and has remained one of major financial resources for BJIMC over the past ten years. However, with above change and difficulties, we will have to postpone the Cello Competition 2015.

Your understanding is highly appreciated and we are aware that the reasons listed could never justify the disruption and disappointment. Therefore, please find below our compensation plan:

  • Application Fee: To be fully refunded
  • Visa Fee: To be fully refunded
  • Air Ticket Refund Fee: Please refund the ticket no later than August 25, 15 and advise the service charge which we will reimburse you together with the above two fees.

Please make sure to send us the receipts / proofs of the fees, and also your bank account to facilitate our reimbursement. Please also note that the reimbursement will be done no later than December 31, 2015.

We thank you for your support in the past and your patience in this regard.
