Overview

The Music Department of Bates College announces a one-year four-fifths position as Lecturer in Music for a composer with strong skills in computer and digital music, starting on August 1st, 2018. Other areas of specialization may include sound art, game music, hardware design or instrument making. Candidates should have a strong command of digital and computer music practices, such as programming in Max/MSP, SuperCollider or other programs, audio recording, composition, and other relevant expertise.
The teaching load for this position consists of four courses within the academic year. The teaching responsibilities include an introductory composition course in digital and computer music, two undergraduate music theory courses, and a course in the applicant’s area of expertise commensurate with our culturally and historically engaged approach to music, as part of the liberal arts education. The position also includes the responsibilities of managing and maintaining Bates Computer Music Studio. A completed or nearly completed PhD or DMA in composition or related fields is required.
