Overview

Beaver Country Day School seeks an experienced, student-centered music instructor to support their string program for the 2019-2020 academic year. The classes are comprised of first, second, and third year string students ranging from 6th-8th grades. Students meet three times a week with their lead teacher (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10:55-11:40) in a combined ensemble comprised of violin, viola, and cello players. Responsibilities include running sectional rehearsals and teaching beginner technique one to three times a week during the above mentioned music class times, depending on the availability of the teacher. This teacher would work closely with the lead teacher to develop routines, goals, and best practices collaboratively.
Competitive candidates should demonstrate expertise in more than one string instrument, excellent musicianship and artistry as a performer and teacher, experience teaching young, beginner students in a group setting, an understanding of classroom management techniques, knowledge of string repertoire, curriculum and pedagogy, the ability to differentiate instruction based on the skill level and learning styles of the students, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with El Sistema is a plus.
