Academy of St Martin in the Fields: Principal Cello

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields is seeking to recruit an outstanding cellist for the position of Principal Cello.

The candidate should be an exceptional musician with proven experience at the highest level in a broad range of musical roles, including in chamber music ensembles and ideally as a Section Leader.

The position status is freelance and will offer the successful candidate flexibility with the work they undertake.

The amount of work will vary, but we expect to offer between 130 to 150 days of work each year, including regular overseas tours to mainland Europe, USA, and worldwide.

The role of Principal Cello with the Academy includes an exciting and broad range of work from chamber and larger-scale orchestra concerts directed by our Music Director Joshua Bell and Leader Tomo Keller to smaller player-led projects with our Chamber Ensemble, including international tours. We are committed to digital, education and outreach initiatives. The Academy also works with a number of guest directors including Julia Fischer and Jan Lisiecki.
