Welsh National Opera shares the power of live opera with audiences and communities across Wales and England – in theatres, in neighbourhoods and online.

WNO is seeking a dynamic and committed No.3 Cello to join our Orchestra.

WNO Orchestra performs nationally and internationally in both the opera house and on the concert platform. Recent visits to the UAE, Morocco, Hong Kong and the Czech Republic complement strong regional links in the UK. The Company performs extensively to widespread critical acclaim, with Music Director Tomáš Hanus, Conductor Laureate Carlo Rizzi, and the Leader of the Orchestra David Adams.

Members of WNO Orchestra have exciting and varied working opportunities. Our musicians forge and foster innovative programmes with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, alongside an array of digital, youth and community work. Based in the creative and cultural hub of Cardiff Bay, WNO is resident at the world-class Wales Millennium Centre, and performs regularly at the internationally acclaimed St David’s Hall.

Audition Requirements

Successful candidates will be contacted and informed of the audition requirements by end of play Saturday 26 November 2022.
Applicants shortlisted for auditions will be invited to submit digital screened first round audition by 12 December 2022. Selected candidates will then be invited to give a second round in person audition during week commending 16 January 2023 in Cardiff. Further shortlisted candidates may be invited to play with the orchestra on the same day as part of the audition process.
Applicants shortlisted for trial periods with the Orchestra will be invited for trials commencing in Spring / Summer 2023.
